Christina's Bio

I was born in San Francisco and raised in Los Angeles. In highschool I was influenced by the paintings of Marta Chaffee and Sam Francis...inspired by their work I began to focus on painting living in Oakland. I studied painting, film and drawing at the San Francisco Art Institute.  After two years I  returned to U.C. Berkeley, graduating with a BA in Art. While at UCB I worked at the Berkeley Repertory Theater and studied music at Laney College in Oakland. I moved to New York City in 1996, invited by my sculpture teacher Irv Tepper. I taught Summer School art in Brooklyn and Harlem as well as beginning to draw seriously. A curator I met there, Jim Harithas would later introduce me to Paul Schimmel and Robert Berman. Egon Schiele, Botero, Pollack, Frida Kahlo, Klimt, Basquiat, Raymond Pettibon, R. Crumb, Sam Francis and S. Clay Wilson being my primary influences in painting and drawing. I admire writers such as Celine, Hunter S. Thompson, Neruda, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, William Burroughs, Sartre and Nietzsche. I studied poetry with Ishmael Reed at UCB. I studied documentary film with Les Blank and admire George Kuchar, Werner Herzog, Kubrick, David Lynch, Tim Burton, Matthew Barney etc. My drawings are part of both the Achenbach Museum and LACMA s permanent drawing collections. I have been inspired by Graffiti...Twist, Eskae, Crayone, Dream, Con One, Miner, Chaz Bojorquez, Dash One, David Choe, Banksy....  I currently surf, study acting with Rob Reece and draw from a small studio. I play electric guitar and sing sometimes. I have surfed Tahiti, Hawaii, Baja, Oregon, California and Australia. I am inspired by travel. I am currently represented by the Robert Berman Gallery and by my Self.
